Surrounded by Nature
Terrace is surrounded by a vast and largely undisturbed coastal wilderness. Glaciated mountain peaks, ancient rainforest, countless river valleys and lakes provide habitat to wide array of species. Among these are the Eagles, bears, wolves, moose, beavers and mountain goats make their home here. Terrace is close to the coast and you can reach the ocean in three different directions: Kitimat to the south, Prince Rupert to the west and Stewart and Gingolx to the north.






Watching Whales and Bears
There are commercial wildlife viewing tours available, especially focused on whales and bears in nearby Prince Rupert. Many folks choose to make the many scenic drives from Terrace to Prince Rupert, Gingolx and Stewart as it is not unusual to see wildlife on these routes. Bears are a popular attraction in Northwest BC. Situated on the edge of the Great Bear rainforest, Terrace is the ideal home base for your bear watching adventure. We have Grizzlies, like the family pictured here, and black bears as well as the world famous Kermodie Bear. The Kermodei is a white coloured Black Bear, often referred to as a ‘Spirit Bear, is more common in this part of British Columbia than anywhere else in the world.
