Skiing & Snowboarding
Steelhead & Ski
Ski and fish in the same day? It’s a real possibility in March and April. Most years the mountains around Terrace get an unbelievable amount of snow. The local ski resort, Shames Mountain, is Canada first community owned Ski hill. With over 1500’ of vertical and an average of 40 feet of snowfall per year, Shames offers a quality ski experience close to town. Shames is just a 15km drive from the Skeena River and you can actually see some of the best winter Steelhead runs on the river from the ski hill.

Backcountry Powder
With consistent snowfall every year the Coastal mountains of Northwest British Columbia are a backcountry skiers dream. Terrace is home to an enthusiastic backcountry ski and snowboard community. There is even a network of mountain cabins run by the Mount Remo Backcountry Society . Terrace is home to two heli ski operations, both of whom provide the quickest to snow Heli skiing from Vancouver. The terrain here is superb with a fantastic mix of steeps, bowls and tree runs. Northern Escape also offers cat skiing which is a great back up option on days when it is too snowy to fly. Ask us about combining some heli skiing with your winter Steelhead trip.
